The 2025 Polestar 5 has been announced, said to be a new electric benchmark with 872 horsepower

It was unveiled alongside the brand's other models at the company's Polestar Day in Los Angeles, California.

The Geely-backed automaker has been developing and testing the 5 over the past two years. It's set to officially launch in 2025, and it looks exactly as we expected. This means it's an elegant sedan with design elements similar to other Polestar models, but with a personality all its own.

At the front, there are split headlights very similar to the Polestar 4, and while there's no traditional grille, the shapely lines and creases visible at the front give the 5 a bit of personality. The roofline in particular is sleek, tapering towards the long, narrow trunk lid with no rear window, similar to the Type 4. How practical this is on the road remains to be seen, but it certainly helps this sedan stand out from the competition. In addition to the black bumper, it also features a large LED light bar.

Polestar has announced that it will use StoreDot to develop an ultra-fast charging battery that will give it a range of 100 miles (161 km) in just 5 minutes without degrading the battery. This new battery has been tested on five prototypes. However, it is not yet clear whether a 2025 model equipped with this battery technology will be released on the market.

What we do know is that the Polestar 5 pumps out a total of 872 hp and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque from its two electric motors and uses an 800-volt electric architecture.

Other Polestar models on display

The brand`s full range of models were on display at the event, including the 2024 Polestar 2 as well as the Polestar 3, Polestar 4, the Polestar Precept that inspired the 5, the Polestar Electric Roadster Concept, and the Polestar Synergy. Attendees were able to test drive the new and improved Polestar 2 and go for passenger rides in the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4.

“Polestar Day provides substantial insight into our products and the innovations we are working on together with global leaders in various fields to bring the best electric performance cars to market,” Polestar chief executive Thomas Ingenlath said. “We are progressing from having one car on the roads – Polestar 2 – to having three, with the ongoing launches of our two SUVs, Polestar 3 and Polestar 4. The next few months will be some of the most exciting times our young company has ever seen. ”
